26/11/2008 Lisbon Treaty - Joseph Daul MEP welcomes decision of Czech Constitutional Court

Joseph Daul MEP, Chairman of the EPP-ED Group, the largest political group in the European Parliament, has welcomed the decision of the Czech Constitutional Court that the provisions of the Lisbon Treaty are compatible with the Czech Constitution.

07-06-07-treaty.jpg "I welcome the decision of the Court. Both Chambers of the Czech Parliament may continue the ratification process and open a proper debate on the Treaty. We expect all Member States to give their opinion on the Lisbon Treaty", said Joseph Daul MEP.

The Czech Republic is the only country where elected representatives or citizens have not yet given their opinion. "I believe that the continuation of the ratification process in the Czech Republic would boost the upcoming Czech Presidency in 2009", concluded Daul.
