29/05/2012 Italian earthquake: EPP Group expresses condolences to victims' families and those affected

120529_earthquake_italy.jpg"We express our deep sorrow to the families of victims of this latest earthquake that hit the north of Italy so hard this morning, and in particular the Emilia Romagna region for the second time within a few days.

We send our deep compassion to the families who lost their loved ones, but also to those who, in the space of just a few minutes, lost everything that they had spent their lives building", said Joseph Daul MEP, Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, and Mario Mauro MEP, Head of the Italian Delegation (PDL) of the EPP Group.

"We, the EPP Group, also want to express our concrete solidarity with the people in the affected areas and will immediately check if - as we believe and hope - it is possible to mobilise the European Solidarity Fund so that the rest of Europe can lend a helping hand", said Joseph Daul and Mario Mauro.
